Great "textbook" for beginners on silks

You can get this book as a paid download from aerial suppliers. It is the pdf version that I'm reviewing. I really wish the e-books were availabe here on Amazon.
I thought this manual was great for me. I am brand new to silks and aerial. The photos really helped me understand the basic moves. I had a teacher who took a "monkey see-monkey do" approach and i couldnt remember anything from class. This manual actually helped me figure out the mechanics and avoid bad technique. (and then i got better teachers who could break things down similar to this manual!)
I'm still using the book to refresh myself in between classes. Aerial requires both body and brain, so this book is good for the brain training. There are many complicated wraps in this book that you may never use. But the author tries to get the student tied up in the silks to train for spatial awareness and that's a good thing to learn so i dont mind it. (the author is also a mathmatician, she thinks knots are fun)
I would recommend this book to anyone learning silks to help "set" the moves in your mind between classes.

Very readable, but likely not enough to learn alone.

This book delivers on what it advertises. It starts with tips for warming up and preventing injuries, and then introduces basic moves and positions. It does not comment on rigging, except that you should get help from a professional.
My school aerial club was founded by a student with many years in flying trapeze and ground acrobatics. We had the rigging and safety knowledge, but no knowledge of silks, so this book was perfect for us. There was also one member who was a professional on silks who came every once in a while, and it was great to have a trained eye watch you.
Has - warm up, well explained moves with lots of helpful pictures
Missing - rigging advice, someone to point out what you don't realize you're doing wrong (though it mentions some common mistakes).
It's probably best to take a class first, and then get this and her intermediate books to supplement your learning. If you have a good background in trapeze or lyra, this book is probably sufficient to start learning silks.
