Good information, easy to understand

The Doctor Who reference on page two kind of sealed the deal of me, but seriously this is a helpful resource for those considering entering the field of computer networking.
It walks you through the basic steps of understanding the basic concepts behind networking and the different types of jobs available in this field.
Ithink the most helpful section of the book is Part II: Having the Right Stuff. This section breaks down the different types of certifications that are available and offers tips on deciding which certifications would be the best fit for the type of job you are pursuing.
The book assumes you have a limited knowledge of the field and does a pretty thorough job of covering the basics.There is even a complete glossary of terms in the back of the book.
There are a few chapters on important things like resumes and cover letters as well as interviews (and questions to ask interviewers). While some of this is something that was already familiar with, it is helpful to see how the interview process works specifically related to the computer networking world.
I think this would be a helpful resource for someone considering entering the networking industry. The book is written in a way that is easy to understand, but still does a pretty thorough job of covering the basics.

A Good Refference - Highly Recommended

"Getting a Networking Job For Dummies" is a good starting point for anyone considering a career in Networking. I was a hiring manger at several tech companies and generally found the advice presented in this book to be quite sound. I generally like "Dummies" book when starting to research a new hobby or a field of study, and this one does cover all of the important considerations when selecting areas to study and the important certifications to seek out.
This does follow the standard Dummies format that makes it enjoyable and informative.

useful as a first step in deciding on a networking job

Computer networking is a hot field now with a lot of job prospects. The Dummies series is known for breaking down all details to layman's terms and Peter H. Gregory does so in this book as well. The book will not necessarily help you obtain a job, but rather tell you what skill set you need and explain what the job entails. You might not be able to buy a book that leads you to your future job in computer networking, but you will be able ot know what your next steps should be -- pursue it or not, continuing education, internship, low-level networking job, etc.
