One of the nineteenth century’s most respected Bible scholars, Dr. James Strong spent some thirty years of systematic study in preparing The Tabernacle of Israel. Using two broad categories for his study of the Tabernacle—its structure and its symbolism—Strong provides a detailed picture of the history, construction, function, and significance of Israel’s “tent of meeting.” Also included are thirty-nine drawings and illustrations, detailing the design of the Tabernacle and its parts.
James Strong (1822–94), LL.D., S.T.D., graduated from Wesleyan University and served as professor of biblical literature at Troy University and later as professor of exegetical theology at Drew Theological Seminary. Dr. Strong was the author of numerous works, including his famous Exhaustive Concordance of the Bible.

Older But Still Relevant From a Sure Source

James Strong is well-known for his 'Strong's Concordance' but not so well-known for this highly interesting book. It is an essential, introductory read for anyone who studies the 'tent of meeting' and 'tabernacle of testimony' (Strong rightly points out that the term 'tabernacle of meeting' and 'tabernacle of the congregation' is incorrect), be they part-time bible student or serious researcher. He steps the reader through the meaning of words by describing the components of the structure from the outside inward; the opposite to the way it is described in the book of Exodus. The book is packed with many interesting facts and his views on the possible symbolism of the structure is fascinating. Its deficiency is a lack of figures to thoroughly make the points but the figures he has are sufficient to navigate the more difficult concepts. It is recommended for those who want a serious read on the subject but easy enough to understand for those with a moderate to strong understanding of the Old Testament.
